As a follow-up to my previous post, here’s further evidence that the Trump administration is not especially interested in supporting good science:

(3) Mentions of climate change are being systematically deleted from government websites. Pro-science people can reasonably disagree about how bad climate change will get or what we should do about it. However, pro-science people do NOT think that the solution is to cover our ears and close our eyes and pretend that the issue does not exist.

(4) Indirect costs for NIH budgets are being slashed by billions of dollars (from their usual 50-70% of direct costs down to 15%), effective immediately. Again, pro-science people may reasonably critique the indirect cost system and propose revisions to it. But saying to universities, “effective Monday, we’re rescinding the research money we had previously guaranteed you for the next several years, have a nice weekend” is not a critique of biomedical research; it’s just a cruel sabotage of it.
