Speaking of Phil, he is also in the Lincoln High School wind ensemble, meaning that we parents are once again being encouraged to buy a mattress in support of Performing Arts at Lincoln (PAL).

Part of me will always find this sort of thing to be silly, in the same way that holding a road race to raise awareness of rheumatoid arthritis is silly. (To be clear: road races are good, and raising awareness of rheumatoid arthritis is good; nevertheless the pairing seems awkward.)
But another part of me appreciates the annual prompt to re-watch one of my favorite moments of the TV show Glee, in which the kids star in a mattress commercial.
Maybe the performing arts and mattresses do belong together after all.
